The Gold Coast City spans across 1,402 square kilometres (approx. 541 square miles) featuring 70 kilometres of coastline from South Stradbroke Island to Rainbow Bay.

At June 30 2004, the population was 469,214 making it the sixth largest city in Australia. The population is expected to increase to 700,407 residents in the year 2021.
